22 Inspiration Ideas for Floral Home Decor

powder room final

{I adore the big bold floral wallpaper in Emily’s powder room makeover}

I love flowers, especially fresh ones, but have always been torn between keeping them in their place on earth to continue to grow and flourish until their time has come; or, to use them as décor, where they will inevitably (and shortly) live for the few days that time will allow.

As much as I love having fresh flowers around, there are other less high-maintenance ways to decorate that have a much longer shelf life (save for some cleanings / dustings here and there). You can add florals to your home with pillows, wallpaper, rugs, bedding, window treatments, accessories, lighting and just about any other creative way you can think of. Here are a few of my favorite ways to bring some blooms into your home. While some of these ideas are not necessarily my taste, they provide me with much inspiration to create my own space and style.

Do you like to decorate with florals? What are some creative ways you’ve found to use florals in your home décor?

Tuesday Treasures: Heart of Gold {Necklaces}

21921335_873098_ED_G_M

{Yellow gold heart locket}

My taste in jewelry is quite broad and can range from the teeniest simple gold post earrings to the absurdly large statement necklaces/earrings/bracelets/cocktail rings. I am a walking contradiction of sorts when it comes to my life and my style. Some days, I will keep things simple with maybe just earrings and my wedding jewelry (an engagement ring and wedding band) and some days I will break out the cocktail rings and layered statement pieces.

My wedding jewelry is a contradiction in itself. My husband picked out a diamond engagement ring for me so I decided to go minimalist with my wedding ring and chose a simple yellow gold band (I tried to go as small as possible, but the jeweler insisted I not go any smaller than his recommendation). My rings are classic pieces, so I can pair them with anything. Today, I wanted to showcase heart necklaces because this is one of those pieces that I like to wear by itself or layered. Here are some of my favorites pieces.

Fashion: How to Add Some Flower Power to Your Wardrobe

chanel-spring-2

{Chanel Spring 2009 Collection – That background is jaw-droppingingly gorgeous and still inspires me today}

You know what they say, April showers bring May flowers. I love flowers, from simple tulips to the ubiquitous wedding flowers, peonies. When it comes to my wardrobe, I am very particular about the floral designs. I typically like florals on my clothes when there is an element of black (such as in most of the designs here) or soft, feminine pieces. I don’t feel like they have to be reserved for warmer weather, and I love that they are trending for fall and winter as we’ve seen on many runways from the most recent F/W 2015 collections. Since it’s spring (in some parts of the world) and the ’70s vibe is trending, you will find plenty of floral pieces in shops. Here are some of my current favorite floral fashion pieces.

I love the soft feminine colors of this maxi dress, the Spell Boho Blossom. I think the dress speaks for itself, so I would style it differently and wear it with my brown Sam Edelman Gigi sandals (a warm-weather staple) and some delicate jewelry.

I love the bold red color color of this blouse. It looks great with the denim shorts as a more casual outfit, but you could easily pair it with a black pencil skirt to dress it up for a date night or to wear to the office. Since the color and print are so bold, you don’t need to wear it with jewelry, but it would do well with some delicate gold or silver pieces.

The floral details in this romper are reminiscent of a tropical island, but the style of the romper makes it so that you can wear it on a night out on any town. I would probably add a blazer, some jewelry and black heels if I were going that route. Otherwise, keep it casual with flat sandals.

I love the way this jacquard floral skirt is styled here. The cut is great and I love the peek-a-boo black material to break up the bold floral design.

This is pretty sleeveless top can be worn alone or paired with a denim jacket and white denim jeans or a black blazer for a dressier look. I love the abstract and water-color effect of the design.

Obviously, I love florals made of chiffon material and the high neck of this dress gives it an elevated look. I would pair it with different boots (I don’t mind the high boot look, but not this style). You could also wear it with tights and black platform heels.

This bra is so pretty, you could wear it with a sheer white v-neck t-shirt (if you so dare) or just wear it underneath a very basic uniform outfit and know you have a pretty secret hiding beneath.

I just purchased this pajama pant at a steal ($4.48!!) and I am loving it. I thought it was on sale for $7.50 until I got to the register and it rang up for less (bonus!!!).

Do you like florals? What kind of floral items are in your wardrobe? Do you wear them year-round or reserve them for warm-weather wear or maybe just as vacation pieces?

Designer Spotlight: Loeffler Randall

8675843_fpx

I’ve always been interested in fashion and style from a very early age. I’ve experimented a lot with my own style and I still do (and fully expect to for the rest of my life). While I love to try new things, there are certain styles and designers that I will always revert to for their sense of timelessness and ease of design. Loeffler Randall, while being a relatively newer brand (est. 2005), is one of those designers that come to mind.

I love her minimalist and straightforward designs on bags and shoes. The pieces can easily be paired with anything in your wardrobe because she sticks to neutral colors and patterns (sometimes with a hint of surprise). Here are some of my favorite pieces from the current collection.

What are some of your favorite styles? Who are some of your favorite designers?

Movie Review: Cinderella 2015

Cinderella_2015_1

I watched the new Cinderella film last weekend and can I just say that I have a totally new girl crush on Lily James? I’ve never seen Downton Abby, so I had not seen her in anything else. She was absolutely charming in the movie.

I just want to say first and foremost that movies or any other forms of entertainment are just that to me, entertainment. I do not look to them to teach me any lessons and when I have kids, I would not want them to learn their life lessons from media that is meant to entertain.  When I judge a movie, I judge it solely on whether or not it did it’s job: entertain me. Ok. I think I’ve got my point across.

My expectations for the film were simple: would it flow well and would I enjoy the actors in their roles? Yes and yes. I knew Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter would be exceptional because they are Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter, two of my favorite actresses. However, I did not know any of the others and I felt they all did a really great job. I loved the costumes and scenery and all the other magical and mystical fairy dust scattered throughout the movie.

We all know the fairytale, right? Ideal family who goes through hard times when girl loses her mother and father and has to live with her evil step-mother and step-sisters. She is relegated to being their housemaid and treated unfairly until her fairy godmother comes to her rescue. She goes to a ball, the prince is smitten with her and she has to leave in a rush before the magic goes away. In the interim, she loses a shoe, the prince searches the entire town to find the girl who fits the shoe. He finds her and they live happily ever after.

This movie is a bit different in that the prince first met Cinderella while she was in her housemaid element, dirty dress and unkempt hair. They have a few words and he is smitten with her. They meet again at the ball and he falls even deeper for her as she does for him.

His desperate attempt to find her is both comical and absurd. Let’s face it, even in their small village, surely there was more than one woman who would have fit the shoe. Yet, there was only one woman who looked like her and instead of searching for the woman, they were searching for the woman who fit the shoe. But, then again, this is Disney and this is a fairytale so it’s not meant to resemble real life.

In the end, Cinderella and the prince meet again and before Cinderella tries on the shoe (which, at this point was kind of moot), she tells the prince she is who she is. Of course, we all know what happens next.

What do you think of fairy tales?

*** Another note, while I consider movies a form of entertainment, I do enjoy watching movies that are “think pieces” like Birdman and have a fun time dissecting them.***

10 Questions to Get to Know Me Better Tag

keep-calm-and-get-to-know-me-18

There have been so many great tags I’ve been reading lately and thought it might be fun to do one myself. This is something I decided to create myself, so you can get to know me a little more:) Hope you enjoy reading and please feel free to do it yourself! I would love to read your answers!

1) What are 3 of your favorite shows on TV or YouTube or both?

Gosh! This is hard! I love to watch really interesting shows about things like watching paint dry, people staring at walls all day and ants crawling around.

2) What are 3 qualities you like in a best friend?

I usually look for friends who like to make me feel bad about myself, who are really mean to people and who are very negative towards life.

3) If you have the choice to pick your own name, what will it be?

I wish my parents would have named me Purple People Eater.

4) What is your fantasy dream?

To live in a world of chaos.

5) Do you wear makeup?

No. I don’t like makeup. I prefer to use clay as foundation, crayons as lipstick and chalk as blush. Sometimes, if I’m feeling festive, I will use tar (if I’m lucky to find some fresh on the ground) as eyeliner.

6) If you could write a book, what would the title be and what would it be about?

Like my TV preference, I am really drawn to fun and interesting books. I would write about water dripping from a faucet and call it “Water Dripping from a Faucet.”

7) What makes you happy?

I love freezing cold weather (the kind where my fingers are frost bitten), days when nothing goes my way and I’m especially happy when I am being taken advantage of and people are rude to me.

8) What are your 3 favorites snacks?

I LOVE to snack on onions, garlic and liver.

9) Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I was Time magazine’s 2006 “Person of the Year”.

10) What is your favorite holiday?

Maybe it’s not my absolute favorite, but April Fool’s Day is always fun:)

Just in case anyone thought I was being serious 🙂

8 Easter Gift Ideas to DIY or BIY

blogADORE_MELBOURNE_KATY-25

Every holiday has its themes and colors and Easter brings to mind pastels and bunnies and baskets. I have been thinking about what to get for my loved ones for this upcoming holiday (yes, still thinking about it even though it is only 5 days away) and have been browsing the world wide web for some inspiration. While there are the usual go-to gifts, such as candies and flowers, I was searching for things that were not candy related or too obvious. Here are a few of my favorite ideas. Do you celebrate Easter? What are some of your favorite gifts to give or get?

il_570xN.361024430_nax7

These painted branches look like a fun project to recreate. You can hang them on a wall and perhaps add some nails to them so you can use them as jewelry holders to hang pretty necklaces and other trinkets.

eastercrayonsmain

How adorable are these bunny DIY crayons? They would be so fun to gift and would look pretty in a bowl as decor.

3rdbirthday6

These hot air balloon animals in a bag are so cute. I would add confetti inside the balloons as an extra surprise.

FinalBathbombs

I have never attempted to make bath bombs at home, but these DIY egg-shaped ones are tempting me to try them out.

8-diy-sidewalk-chalk-popsicles

These popsicle sidewalk chalks look good enough to eat!

spoons-2

I’ve been seeing these dipped painted wooden spoons around the blogosphere and would love to try to make them myself.

q

I cannot have enough bowls around the house as they are so useful, not just in the kitchen, but in every room in my home. I may have to take a trip to the thrift store to see if there are any wooden bowls so I can try to recreate these.

My fascination with miniature things runs deep and I just about gasped when I saw these mini pastel locks.

10 Healthy Movie Theater Snack Options

519M0CdkL4L

I fell off the wagon last weekend when I went to the movies and reverted back to my teenager self who just had to have popcorn and candy and soda. UGH! I mean, really, what is it about movie theater popcorn that is just so appealing? I’m not an at-home popcorn eater, but when I step into a movie theater, it’s like I turn into a popcorn savage beast.

Despite trying to live a healthier lifestyle, I failed big time. I know one of the major reasons I turned to unhealthy snacking options is because I did not have a plan. I decided after feeling so guilty that I would come up with healthier alternatives to my movie snacking. Here are some some snack options that I will be bringing along with me in the event a snack attack sneeks up on me at the movie theater again. Perhaps, in the future, I can be more evolved and not even feel the need to snack at the movies (HA!). Do you like to eat at the movies? What are your go-to snack options?

271156-grapes009886

Grapes and Babybel cheese – I love the combination of grapes and cheese. These Babybel mini cheese rounds are easy to pack and unwrap. They are a great snack to have around. cinalmonds

Cinnamon Roasted Almonds – I have a huge bag of almonds that need to be used. One of my plans is to roast some of them to have as snacks. This recipe looks easy and seems like they would keep for awhile. Almonds satiate easily and keep you feeling full for a longer period of time without having to consume too much.

popcorn

Low Carb Popcorn – I just came across this recipe, but I am willing to try it out. Hopefully it is a good substitute for my movie popcorn obsession. Paleo-Nut-Butter-Cups-Reeses-Peanut-Butter-Cup-Substitute

Paleo Peanut Butter Cups – I cannot wait to try this recipe out. I love to freeze my peanut butter cups. I think they are so much tastier that way.

gummy bears

Low Carb Gummy Bears – I’ve been having a love affair with gummy bears since forever, so you can guess how excited I was to come across this recipe. I cannot wait to try these out!

raisinets

Spiced Paleo Raisinets – Raisinets are another of my go-to candy choices at movie theaters. This recipe looks really yummy and will probably taste good frozen.

candy

Low Carb + Gluten-Free Maple Walnut Candy – Candied nuts usually remind me of holidays (though I like to eat them year-round). This recipe looks like something that I can eat year-round without feeling guilty.

chips

Brussels Sprouts Chips – I inadvertently made these before as one tends to do when roasting brussels sprouts. You can’t help from having some pesky leaves from falling apart. It was a happy accident. Here’s a great recipe if you want to make them on purpose.

kale chips

Baked Kale Chips – When it comes to veggie chips, it can’t hurt to have more than one kind. For variety, here’s a recipe for kale chips. I can only imagine it will do more good than harm to eat one too many of these.

ING-tangerine_sql

Tangerines – I love having these around because they taste good, but they also freshen up a space. I can’t imagine anyone complaining if you peel one of these open and the nice citrus smell wafts across the room.

One Romper to Wear to Ten Outings

524813_in_xl

Rompers, like dresses, have a certain easiness to them in that they are a complete outfit. As much as I like to play dress up, there are days where I prefer to keep things simple. I like this particular romper because it’s chambray and I’ve had a long-standing committed relationship with chambray (one I suspect is for life), it’s casual, but can be dressed up and it has great details, like the drawstrings in the front and back. When choosing a pricier item, I always think about the uses and years I will have a particular item. Here are 10 different occasions I would wear this to.

  1. An afternoon picnic date
  2. Brunch with girlfriends
  3. Weekend errands-running
  4. A day at the farmers’ market
  5. A BBQ gathering
  6. A casual birthday party
  7. A music festival
  8. On a bike ride
  9. A movie outing
  10. Stepping out for ice cream

Do you like rompers? Do you wear them for only specific events or places?

TGIF! How was your week? It’s been a good one, despite the change (for the worse) in weather. I’m looking forward to some down time this weekend. My sister keeps insisting I need to watch Empire. Anyone else tuned in? Thoughts? I want to catch the new Cinderella movie. What are your plans? Here are some things I’ve been loving this week. Have a good one!
